It was one of those flashback Thursday days on Facebook.  I was thumbing through my newsfeed and almost skipped right over it at first.  Who was that person in the picture, with her round belly looking like it was about to burst?  Oh my goodness, that’s me!  It’s hard to believe that in just 5 short years, I was almost unrecognizable to myself!  That is how soon we forget.  Seeing the image of me with my pregnant belly brought back a slew of emotions – excitement, nostalgia, gratitude (and –  I’m not gonna lie –  a small dose of relief that I can currently see my feet when I look down!)

That is why it is so important to chronicle the adventure into parenthood.  Regardless of how you think you feel about your pregnant body, you are going to want to look back some day and remember this sliver in time.  You are going to want to show your children photographs.  My son has a framed photo in his room of his big sister kissing my belly when he was in the womb.  If you ask him about it, he will tell you that he was loved even before he was born.  That’s because he was.

The awesome thing about maternity portraits is that there are no rules.  You may choose to flaunt your bare belly or you may choose to never show it – both can be exceptionally beautiful.

I recently shot this maternity session with the most lovely couple, Alex and Tim.  They are expecting their first child (a girl!) any day now.  They’ve known each other since they were teenagers, but it is obvious that they are more in love now than ever.

Since ice cream and pregnancy are pretty much synonymous, we thought this was a fitting ending to our evening. 🙂
